The Prez Sez: Notes from the MMK June Meeting

Well, the good news is that my husband is doing well and is back to work after his surgery. My golf tournament was a great success in all respects: weather, fun, and fundraising. I met Steve Bisciotti, the owner of the Baltimore Ravens who was Honorary Chairman of our tournament. He let me try on his Super Bowl ring; I even have a picture to document the moment!
Our June meeting took place at A Tangled Skein. In attendance were myself, Jeanne Bohlen, Christine Estacion, Kathy Graziani, Marilyn Rifkin, Lorena Scott, Emily Bennett and our guest and potential new member, Kim Shannon.

Our meeting was never formally called to order but we did have several discussions.

The first, and most important, is that we have decided to return to the church for our monthly meetings. The yarn shop is wonderful and the owners are nice and welcoming, but, unlike Shirley’s shop, it is full of other non-guild members and it just isn’t conducive to a formal meeting. There is no real place we can spread out and talk and it is a bit further away for some of the members. So by executive order (mine), we will call it a failed experiment and revert to what works for us.

Second, and also important, there will be no July meeting. Since the first Wednesday is on July 4th, it just makes sense to cancel. We will be meeting in August; most probably for sit and knit (not a bad thing) so mark your calendars.

Third, we decided not to pursue the Hospitality Suite at Stitches this year. We felt that more of the membership would benefit with a workshop or something similar for the amount of money we would be spending on a hotel room. That being said, we really must make a decision about how we want to spend the money and when.

We had an informal show and share but we didn’t write anything down. There were some other discussions about knitting and we did enjoy our time but, again, didn’t write anything down (no table!!).

Well, that’s all the news for now. Hope you all have a safe and happy 4th!

See you at the next meeting: Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at the church.
