NEXT MEETING IS WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 3RD AT 7:00, PROGRAM STARTING AT 7:30. PROGRAM TOPIC THIS MONTH IS REVERSIBLE STITCHES

Maryland Metro Knitters Guild Newsletter August-September 2003

Letter from the President (Mady)
(This incorporates Lorena's minutes for the August meeting.)

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd in our new meeting location: the First United Methodist Church in Hyattsville – across the street from the Prince Georges Plaza Metro Station. Directions are posted on our website: www.mdmetroknitters.blogspot.com The program for the meeting will be REVERSIBLE STITCHES. These are stitches that look good inside as well as outside and are sometimes the same on both sides. Lauri Katz will lead us through this. Bring yarn and needles to try some (I think worsted weight or bulkier in light colors is best for learning, but anything will work!) We have our room from 7:00 P.M. and our program will start at 7:30.

At our last meeting, we decided to participate in Knit 'N Share with INKnitters magazine. This is a fundraiser for the guild and should be great fun for us! The Guild chooses a theme and at least 6 knitters knit projects related to the theme. We also write an article about our group and the theme. The guild gets $300 to use promoting knitting. They also like to have an original pattern for one of the garments and the designer gets extra payment. See "http://www.inknitters.com/Knit_n_share.htm" for a description. We had decided at the meeting to do entrelac as our theme, with Donna Jaffe's hat pattern as our original. Unfortunately, when I called and spoke to the editor, that theme is already taken. Knowing that Lauri Katz has done a lot of work on reversible stitches, I claimed that theme. I hope you like this theme. We can talk about this at the meeting.

Plans are moving along for our retreat at the beach to be held from Fri., November 7th to Sunday, November 9th. Due to a family illness, Marilyn cannot be sure that her apartments in Rehoboth will be available. I can accommodate 4 of us (including me) in my apartment in Sea Colony in Bethany Beach. I have a colleague who has offered to rent us his home in Fenwick Island that sleeps 8 people for $200.00 for the weekend. Please come to the September meeting prepared to sign up if you want to attend. Payment will be due by September 15. We'll discuss more details at the meeting. If you cannot be at the meeting, contact Mady if you want to sign up.

Our August meeting was a charity project meeting, with donations to go to children in Russian orphanages. Kathy Graziani collected our items. Many beautiful hats, gloves, socks, a sweater were brought to the meeting for our charity project. There are going to be some really warm children this winter. It’s not to late to make a charity item. If you have an item and were not able to be at the meeting you can get in touch with Kathleen Walton at busywoman@eudoramail.com.

See you after Labor Day.

Happy Knitting until then,
Mady
